1. CAI BEO ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

In 1938, J.G. Andexown and M. Colani, both French, discovered the archaeological site of Cai Beo. Since then Cai Beo was excavated three times, in 1972, 1973 and 1981. Objects unearthed include some 479 tools: pestles, triturable tables, hacks, caulkers, graters, etc; ceramic wares made of clay and sand; cookers; remains of ancient people; bones of fish and teeth of sounders, deer, mountain goats, etc. Cai Beo archaeological site belongs to the Ha Long civilization. Cai Beo's residents lived 6,475 - 4,200 years ago. This was the first group of people living in Vietnam's northeastern coastal region who knew how to catch fish and plant feeding crops.


2. LONG CHAU ISLAND

The National Heritage Council of 27 members has recently met with the Vietnam UNESCO Committee and People's Committee of Hai Phong city to review papers submitted to UNESCO for recognizing Cat Ba - Long Chau Island as a world's natural heritage.

The Council made good comments on Haiphong city’s well-prepared application papers, clearly highlighting the biodiversity and natural values ​​of Cat Ba - Long Chau Island.

This shows local great efforts on and determination in applying for the UNESCO world's natural heritage award. The National Heritage Council checked the papers, and required some revision to made for the Prime Minister’s approval prior to submission to UNESCO on September 23rd.


3. ATTRACTION OF CAT BA NATIONAL PARK

Cat Ba National Park, adjacent to Ha Long Bay, consists of 366 islands in Lan Ha Bay, of which Cat Ba Island is the biggest with the area of 100 km2. In 2005, Cat Ba archipelago was voted the world biosphere reserve area by UNESCO. There are two choices to come to Cat Ba. By waterway on a hydrofoil from Ben Binh (Haiphong), it takes about 45 minutes. You will have chance to contemplate the splendid Ha Long Bay. Lan Ha Bay is smaller than Ha Long Bay but it contains many limestone islands, of which each possesses a particular beauty. To the left side of the hydrofoil, you will see Dau Go cave, Bai Chay beach, Hon Gai, and then the appearance of islands, i.e. Mam Xoi island, Oan island, Hai Tien island, etc…


4. CAT BA - PEARL ISLAND

Cat Ba - the pearl island is the well-known archipelago in the whole country with a spectacular array of sea and island scenery, it covers an area of 20,000ha in the North-East of Hai Phong. It takes about one hour by high speed ferry to go to the island, or by land it is about 60 km passing 2 ferries, you will easily reach the pearl island. In the spacious sea, we suddenly see a tropical jungles.
