A Brief Introduction of The Central Sector of the War Remnants Museum

Located at 28 Vo Van Tan Street, Ward 6, District 3, This themed museum specializes in researching, collecting, maintaining and exhibiting documents, photographs and artifacts from the war in Vietnam.

The Museum has more than 20,000 documents, artefacts, films, and photos, 1,500 of which are showcased in eight permanent exhibitions. During its 43 years of existence, the Museum has received over 17 million Vietnamese and international visitors. Now, with over one million visitors a year, the War Remnants Museum is among the most visited of all cultural locations and tourist destinations, and honoured to enjoy the confidence of the public internationally and locally.

Its endeavours have fetched it the Government’s Labour Medal, 3rd class, in 1995 and Labour Medal, 2nd class, in 2001. It was named by TripAdvisor, one of the world’s largest travel website, among the top international museums in many years, gaining the 10th position in 2018.

The War Remnants Museum is honoured after being voted among the 10 most exciting destinations in Ho Chi Minh City by Vietnamese and international visitors in November 2009.

The War Remnants Museum receives the traditional banner from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on its 35th anniversary (September 4, 1975 – September 4, 2010)

The War Remnants Museum was chosen as one of the country’s five most outstanding museums in August 2012.

Between 2002 and 2010 the Museum was rebuilt and modernised. The construction was finished on April 30, 2010. It is now expanding its exhibitions to cover the French and Japanese colonisation and post-war periods.

A Brief Introduction of The Central Sector of the Ho Chi Minh City Museum

Located at 65 Ly Tu Trong Street, District 4, tp Ho Chi Minh, built in 1890 in a neo-classical design by Alfred Foulhoux, a French architect. Its architecture harmoniously combines the styles of the West and the East. Two statues of the Goddesses of Commerce and Industry in front of the two main entrances show the building’s initial function as the Museum of Commerce, which exhibited domestic products. Currently, it displays artifacts illustrating the history and development of this city.

In 1945, the building belonged to five owners. The Japanese fascist government took over the French colonial government in March, Yoshio Minoda, the Japanese Governor occupied the palace, then Japanese government entrusted it to the regime of Bao Dai – Tran Trong Kim. The King’s special envoy of the Cochichina, Nguyen Vaên Sam used as private residence for a short time. On August 25 th 1945, the Revolution force lowered Bao Dai force’s flag and raised the revolution’s flag. Then the building became the Southern Provisional Administrative committee’s headquarter. On September 10 th 1945, B.W Roe Lieutenant – colonel (British mission) occupied legally the palace so the Southern Provisional Administrative committee’s headquarter had to move to Doc Ly palace (nowadays is Ho Chi Minh city’s people council).

After re-invading Saigon on May 23rd 1947, the French government entrusted the palace to Le Van Hoach and used as the Southern autonomous government’s headquarter, then it became Tran Van Huu Governor’s palace, the Southern government’s palace on June 2 nd 1948.

After Geneva treaty 1954, Ngo Dinh Diem regime used the building as Quoc Khach palace. On February 27 th 1962, the Unification palace bombed, Ngo Dinh Diem used the palace as the presidential palace. Twenty months later, November 1st 1963, Saigon troops took over Ngo Dinh Diem regime. The Unification palace already built in 1962, this building was the Supreme court. Since 1975, it became Revolution museum of Ho Chi Minh city, it has been Ho Chi Minh city museum since December 13 th 1999.

Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum (Bảo Tàng Mỹ Thuật Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh) built in 1920, this museum was a residence having European style of architecture. Being one of the country’s largest fine arts museums, it has more than 20,000 works of art exhibited indoors (2,892 m2) and outdoors (1,623 m2). The museum has three floors. The first floor is reserved for fine arts exhibitions by Vietnamese and foreign artists. The second floor exhibits paintings and sculptures. The third floor exhibits Champa and Oc Eo sculptures and Vietnamese antiques between from the 7th century to the 10th century, as well as European arts collection from the 18th to the 20th centuries. Some of the most valuable artworks by famous Vietnamese artists in the museum can be listed as the lacquer painting “Vuon Xuan Trung Nam Bac” (The Spring Gardens in the North, the Center and the South) by Nguyen Gia Tri and “Thanh Nien Thanh Dong” (Young Bulwark) by Nguyen Sang

Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts is the major art museum of HCM City, Vietnam, and second in the country only to the Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts in Hanoi.

Museum of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine – FITO Museum (Bảo tàng Y học cổ truyền và Dược cổ truyền Việt nam) located at 41 Hoang Du Khuong Str., is housed in a five story home, built and renovated to resemble a traditional style Vietnamese home. The wooden carved decorations and details within the house were incredible.

Fito Museums - are a couple of first private museums in Vietnam which are devoted to the Traditional Vietnamese Medicine & Pharmacy.

  • Nearly 3,000 items relevant to traditional Vietnamese medicine dating back to the Stone Age.
  • An instruments used to prepare a traditional medicine: knives, grinders, mortars and pestles, pots and jars.

Wax Statue Museum of Vietnamese Artists (Khu trưng bày tượng sáp Văn Nghệ sĩ Việt Nam) located Hoa Binh Theatre, 240, 3/2 Street, Ward 12, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, this first wax statue museum in Vietnam, it took Viet Wax Figure Company 16 years and much effort to create lively statues looking like real celebrities and reflecting their true spirit.

This museum having an exhibition hall with its area of 1,500 square meters in Hoa Binh Theatre holds more than 100 full-size statues of Vietnamese artists working in theatre, film and music. The museum also provides opportunities on weekends for artists to introduce traditional Vietnamese music and performance such as “hát bội”, a form of classical Vietnamese theatre and “đờn ca tài tử”, a form of modern folk opera in Vietnam, especially in the South of Vietnam, which are played with musical instruments.

The waxworks include those of artists from different generations, from late composer Van Cao and legendary Vietnamese musicologist Tran Van Khe to such biggest cai luong (southern traditional singing) artists as Vien Chau and Ut Bach Lan.

More contemporary artists, including star comedian Hoai Linh, Guinness World Record holding circus artists The Giang Brothers and pop singer Ly Hai are also among the exhibited sculptures.

All of the waxworks are products of Tuong Sap Viet Co., which is also the museum’s operator.

Museum of Vietnamese History in Ho Chi Minh City (Bảo tàng Lịch sử Việt Nam - Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) located at 2 Nguyen Binh Khiem Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, Formerly known as the Musée Blanchard de la Brosse, built by Auguste Delaval in 1927, and The National Museum of Viet Nam in Sai Gon, it received its current name in 1979. It is a museum showcasing Vietnam's history with exhibits from all periods. It should not be confused with the National Museum of Vietnamese History in Hanoi.

The museum was built in 1927 within the grounds of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens. It boasts a huge collection of more than 37,000 artifacts of Vietnamese people from the prehistoric period to the French colonial period. It also exhibits ancient artifacts from Southern Vietnamese cultures such as Oc Eo and Cham, and artworks from many Asian countries. The museum holds many national treasures including a seal of Le Dynasty (1471) found in Quang Nam Province, 13 weapons produced in 1839 under the reign of Minh Mang King, an imperial ivory seal of Nguyen Dynasty, a stone God Shiva statue and a golden Kosa statue made in the 13th century, which belonged to Champa culture. The museum also has a place for preserving its artifacts

A Brief Introduction of The Central Sector of the Ao Dai Museum

Located at 206/19/30 Long Thuan, district 9 of Ho Chi Minh City, built by Si Hoang after 12 years of researching and collecting artifacts, a well-known Vietnamese designer for Ao Dai, the traditional clothes of Vietnam. It is extremely clean and quiet place, perfect for those interested in Vietnamese culture but also for people who are looking for a quiet place to have some quality time.

The first branch of the museum is located in a 2,000 square meter garden house that boasts old wooden architecture and a rustic southern landscape with rice fields, bamboo bridges, lotus ponds and rivers. The museum showcases the collection of Ao Dai from the earliest days to the modern time. Beside that, stories about these Ao Dai and their owners such as eminent women working for the military and in diplomatic, social, cultural, educational, commercial and art fields are featured. Together with showcasing Ao Dai in different periods, the second one offers tourists Vietnamese art performances.

Artinus 3D Art Museum (Khu triển lãm tranh 3D Artinus) is the first museum exhibiting 3D paintings in Ho Chi Minh City. In this museum, there are nine zones including an underwater world, a wildlife world, a world of giants, a wonder land, a strange house, a garden of love, ancient Egypt, and a place decorated with paintings of Vietnam nature and some simulations of famous paintings by Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Munch, and Cezanne. The artworks are created for visitors to be able to step inside and become a part of stunning 3D scenes.

Artinus 3D Art Museum is an interactive art gallery, which gives it visitors a truly wonderful experience in the magic of 3D. A Brief Introduction of The Central Sector of the Southern Vietnam Women Museum

Southern Vietnam Women Museum (Bảo Tàng Phụ Nữ Nam Bộ) Located at 202 Võ Thị Sáu, District 3, Hồ Chí Minh City. Often overlooked by tourists, this museum celebrates the women’s role in the society, economy, and revolutionary history of the southern part of the country. It offers informative exhibits that include photographs, historical documents, and artifacts such as statues, combat equipment used by women, paintings and dioramas, tools used in the traditional production of textiles, and ao dai worn by famous women. As of a February 2018, the second floor has an exhibit on the history of the ao dai and another on textile production, the third floor details women’s revolutionary contributions, and the fourth floor is under renovation. Close to the War Remnants Museum and free admission.
