Cat Ba Island locates far 45 km from Hai Phong City at the East and far 50km from Halong City at the South. In here, there are some tourism ports to easier transfer from Halong bay to Cat Ba Island. The most popular port locates at the middle of Cat ba town and the second one is Beo port which has a lot of travel cruises in Cat Ba island.

If you depart from Hanoi, you can get a local bus from bus companies like Hoang Long company, which departs from Luong Yen to Cat Ba with the price about of 10$/ person and the time of the bus at 5h20, 7h20, 11h20 and 13h20.

If you get a private car, you can go straight No. 5 National Way to Hai Phong, through Dinh Vu port and two ferries passing by Cat Hai, Cat Ba. The ferry operates from 5a.m to 5p.m, one hour one turn at Vieng Port.
